Apply Online to be considered for SC National Fellowship – The National Fellowship (NF) Scheme for Scheduled Caste was designed and is supported by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. It is available to those who are members of Scheduled Caste and are pursuing advanced studies, such as full-time and regular M.Phil. or Ph.D.degrees in Sciences Humanities and Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences as well as Engineering & Technology.

There are 2000 seats available for Scheduled Caste every year for every subject. The fellowships have a 3% limit for candidates with disabilities that belong to SC categories in accordance with the provisions that is formulated by the Government of India. The aim for the National Fellowship for SC Students scheme is to offer five-year fellowships in form of financial assistance for students belonging to SC category, as directed to the Central Government to pursue higher education, including M.Phil. as well as Ph.D. in Indian Universitiesinstitutionsand Colleges. UGC Fellowship to SC Students

2). They are considered to be universities within Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 and able to receive aid-in-aid grants from UGC.

National Fellowship scheme for Scheduled Caste Students is a Central Sector Scheme launched in the year 2005-06 in order to offer opportunities for Scheduled Castes students to pursue higher education and leading into M.Phil/Ph.D degrees in the Humanities, Sciences Social Sciences, as well as Engineering & Technology streams.

The scheme offers the creation of 2000 fellowships (1500 Junior Research Fellows in Humanities/ Social Sciences as well as 500 Junior Research Fellows for the Science stream) each year to Scheduled Caste students who wish to pursue higher-level studies as well as research that lead to M.Philor Ph.D degrees, who are able to pass the National Eligibility Test(NET-JRF) – junior Research Fellowship (NET-JRF) of UGC (for Humanities/ Social Sciences ) or UGC Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (UGC-CSIR) the NET-JRF test jointly (for Science stream that includes Engineering & Technology).

UGC is the principal agency in carrying out the scheme. UGC is accountable for establishing guidelines and procedures for the implementation of the scheme, such as the selection of beneficiaries as well as the disbursement of fellowships to the selected applicants.

Eligibility for National Fellowship for SC Students
Candidates must fulfill the requirements listed below in order to be eligible to receive the grant of this fellowship.
The candidate must be from SC/ST and must be able to pass the Passed Examination. Post Graduate Examination.
The candidate must be in good standing to receive M.Phil./Ph.D.
Transgender applicants can apply for the scheme. The reservation process must be followed in accordance with the regulations of the government of India rules.
Fellowships will be granted to SC candidates who are pursuing regular and full-time M.Phil./Ph.D. courses in Universities/Research Institutions recognized by UGC. Candidates who are Scheduled Castes and have already been accepted and have passed the NET examination are given priority. If sufficient candidates who have already gained admission are not in the pool, candidates who haven’t yet secured admission will be considered according to merit during the NET exam.

Fellowship rates
Housing Rent Allowance (HRA) in the amount of 8 percent 16 percent and 24% are available to students not provided with accommodation in a hostel, as per the Govt. of India rules applicable to the location or city where the researchers are working.

In case hostel accommodation offered by the university/institution is refused by the candidate, he/she will forfeit his/her claim of HRA. Other services like medical facilities, and leave that includes pregnancy leave will be administered by UGC’s guidelines. UGC for their fellowship program.

Medical: There is no separate fixed medical aid is offered. However, the fellow may avail of the medical facilities available in the University/Institution/College. For more information to the guidelines of the scheme for the scheme in force w.e.f. 01.04.2020 can be read.

Selection Procedure for SC Fellowship
UGC is the primary agency to implement this National Fellowship scheme for SC students.
The selection process for awarding of fellowships for students is determined by evaluating the merit of each UGC NET-JRF or UGC CSIRNET-JRF exam.
The merits for the grant to fellowships in the NFSC will be determined by the NET exam and preference is given to applicants who already been granted admission.
However, if enough candidates aren’t available, applicants who haven’t been admitted will be chosen in order of merit during the NET exam.
The merit lists will also be prepared for those candidates if necessary. The candidates who already been granted admission to the fellowship are required to join the fellowship within three months from the date of issue of the JRF award letter as per the Scheme.
The duration of the fellowship is not extended. applicants who fail to join the fellowship within three months, will be terminated.
Candidates who meet the criteria, but who are not admitted when they apply in the application for Fellowship in the Scheme must be admitted to a full and regular time M.Phil./Ph.D at a reputable research institute at the first chance that is available, but not more than three years after the date of awarding of the fellowship.
The authenticity of Scheduled Caste Certificate furnished by the recipient must be confirmed by the relevant University/ Institution before allowing the recipient to apply for an award in the program.
It is the decision of UGC on the issue of awarding the Fellowship is final , and no appeal will be allowed against any decision made by UGC regarding it.
